This week’s topic is:
Balancing, Managing, Surviving
…and Staying Sane – part II.
Friday, March 19, 2010 at 6pm EST (3pm PST)
Are you good at being a parent? Or do you often wonder how to do it as well as the other parents you see out and about? If you feel like your toddler is starting to get the better of you…this next show is a MUST!!!
Are we all just going insane?
The response to Last Week’s Broadcast was so great, that it became clear to me the discussion needed to continue. I received an abundance of letters and responses from listeners who were relieved to know that they are not the only one who is feeling the pressure to fit more into a day than is humanly possible. Wendy Young, of Kidlutions.com, writes “How great of you to put yourself out there, embrace it…and share it with so many who can relate. You have “normalized” a bit of our human~ness…the pieces of ourselves that make us so dang human…and imperfect…and I think that is just PERFECT in and of itself!”
As proud as I am that we have raised our expectations of ourselves, it’s important to understand the consequences of “trying to do it all.” As parents, very often we forget to take care of ourselves, and the family as a whole ends us suffering as a result.
As always, this show is meant to help you laugh, but also will give you the tools to use in your own circumstances that will prevent you from taking a trip to the “looney bin”. Still, many parents seemed to be a bit envious of my experience:
Jan Hall writes, “I’d say you were pretty lucky! I’d give anything to be locked away for 3 days.”
In addition to wrapping up my tale of nuttiness, this week, I will be sharing another personal experience with you that I believe so many will also relate to: How I went from dealing with my overactive, temper tantrum throwing, loud and very difficult 2 1/2 year old, wondering every second of everyday how in the world a toddler was getting the best of me, to enjoying every moment with the sweetest and most well behaved little boy anyone had ever seen…in a matter of days. The Secret? My very good friend, Shannon Penrod shared with me her knowledge of “behavioral therapy” which is the very same tactics that are used with children who have Autism, and essential for any struggling new parent to obtain.
These unknown little tricks “fixed” my day to day routine with my son…and I thanks to her, I was able to enjoy my little boy again, rather than dreading my time with him. I can now say with the utmost confidence, that I am really good at being a mom. The results are immediate and simply amazing!! *Shannon Penrod, host of Everyday Autism Miracles will be joining us as a guest this Friday and will be sharing these valuable and underutilized techniques with you.
