Torn Between Parenting AND Peace?
While summer vacations can be rewarding, plentiful, and filled with quality family time…holding the responsibility of entertaining the kids for two straight months can be downright DRAINING. Don’t kid yourself. SUMMERS ARE HARD FOR PARENTS.
If you’ve ever been made to feel inadequate from a member of an older generation of parenting, you aren’t alone….and you aren’t WRONG.
Life WAS easier back then.
Times have certainly changed as has the expectation of more parental involvement and societal pressure. This, in addition to the need to sustain a second income … as well as an unavoidable increase in spending during the summer. (Sheesh. When did everything get SO EXPENSIVE?)
With Resolution comes Re-Purpose
Don’t wait for New Years Eve to create a list of new intentions. Your new year starts NOW with the freedom that comes once the kids go back to school! Don’t feel guilty, Mom. It is PERFECTLY okay to find peace and fulfillment in your quiet home. After a self-congratulatory toast for making it through another summer, look for areas of improvement for next year. Start with revamping the current structure of your home based business to be more SCALABLE— so that in 12 months from now, you’ll be ready to scale back your work-load and attack the fun of summer with full commitment (and less guilt!)
And yet ANOTHER reason why your career should be profitable AND personally fulfilling
Back when we were kids, our parents coped with back-to-school and empty-house-syndrome through a variety of enjoyable activities.
The stereotypical stay-at-home parent might have been labeled as a bored housewife who passed the time by watching daytime dramas and engaging in neighborhood gossip. The more beneficent homemakers found joy in the involvement of charitable organizations and philanthropic activities. Some found great pleasure in creative cooking, interior design and even cost-effective shopping. It must have been nice to have choices that didn’t involve working. Then again….staying busy was the GOAL, not the DETERRENT.
We can’t un-choose to be parents, and we don’t have of control over the society in which we live.
While the state of the current economy may have has left us withoutthe choice to either WORK OR NOT WORK, we still have the ability to find personal fulfillment in how we supplement the family bank account. Why not kill two birds?
Fall back in love with your Work-At-Home Purpose
There is no better way to rekindle the affair with your at-home-career than to simply SHOW UP FOR YOURSELF.Getting back into the pattern of working doesn’t have to be an impossible mission. (It’s just like riding a bike!)
Psyche yourself up! Before jumping into all those dreaded business tasks, take a minute to recall those work at home rewards and remember why you hired yourself in the first place. In addition to being available when the afternoon school bell rings, self-employment still gives you the ability to sign your own paychecks, save money on your commute, work in your pajamas and — oh right— the ability to be the boss… OF YOU.
